In this 4th episode of Tri Talking Sport I chat with Mike Reilly whose name and voice is synonymous with endurance racing across the world. The phrase ' You are an IRONMAN' has greeted athletes on the finish line of IRONMAN races across the globe for over 30 years.
As an announcer Mike has worked finish lines of running, triathlon and endurance events for almost 40 years, calling close to 400,000 athletes over185 events down the famed Mdot carpet of IRONMAN.
Mike finally released his book Finding My Voice earlier this year, featuring insight and tales of some of the incredible people he has met along the way of his announcing career on the finish line of IRONMAN.
October 2019 will see Mike work his 31st World Championship in Kona, Hawaii and he has no plans to slow down just yet, his energy enthusiasm and passion for his work as an announcer is incredible, watching him work the mic is a lesson in endurance itself.
I was very privileged to start my announcing career in 2011 alongside Mike in Galway and it was a treat to work with him at IRONMAN Ireland in Cork this month. A mentor and friend from when we first met, we had lots of fun on the finish line in Cork, like old friends picking up where our previous conversation finished despite not being in each others company for a few years.
