We are kickstarting 2020 with a great show featuring two determined, driven and passionate athletes from Westport in Co. Mayo. Brothers Con and Aaron Doherty shoot the breeze in Galway after racing at the Fields in Athenry on St Stephen's Day.
A show full of insight into the similar but different lives of the two brothers who have made high-performance sport a way of life. Con is a triathlete chasing Olympic qualification whilst continuing to focus on his college studies, he has raced triathlon since 2010 with a long list of podiums and racing accolades to date. 2019 was a great year with multiple podium finishes on the domestic and international circuit, all with Tokyo 2020 in mind.
Aaron, the younger brother of the two is currently studying in UL, he has transitioned from running to triathlon, turned his hand to professional cycling and has come full circle to return to triathlon. He is the 2019 Triathlon Ireland BMW National Series Champion and the Junior Elite National Champion, continues to race as a cyclist domestically and is one to watch for the future as he paves his own successful path in triathlon.
We chat about their journey in triathlon, juggling college life and sport, the importance of goal setting, mastering your skill, self discipline, sibling rivalry and passion for sport. It's the perfect show to whet your appetite for triathlon and to set some fitness and sporting goals of your own for 2020.
Have a great New Year and thanks as always for tuning in!
Until next time…
